Hi! I'm Brenda Wilson and I teach 6th, 7th and 8th grade Reading at Westbrook Jr. High. This year, I am also teaching 6th and 8th Computers and Speech. Each year I teach something a little different! One year, along with Reading, I taught 6th, 7th and 8th History! This is my 11th year of teaching. I love reading, and I try to instill the love of reading into my students. Reading is important in all subjects, and as the reading teacher I feel a great responsibility to help students become good readers for many reasons!

We are using the McDougal-Littel reading series this year. The students and I truly LOVE it! It comes with an interactive reader that the students enjoy. I believe this helps them to become better independent readers. The stories are great and varied! The series has all of the stories on CD's, so part of the time, the class listens to these as they follow along in the story. I believe this helps them hear excellent reading, which will in turn help them as they read.

This is my 2nd year to coach UIL drama! I really enjoy plays and hope to have a great production this year! The UIL drama tryouts will begin this winter for the play we will be doing at UIL contest this year. I hope to have many students tryout for the play this year. We had a great play last year and I know this one will be even better!

Our Elementary and Jr. High UIL will be held on December 1st and 2nd at Highland. I am the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade UIL coach for the following events:
Spelling
Listening
Oral Reading
Impromptu Speaking
Modern Oratory
Music Memory

It is enough to really keep me hopping!! If anyone has some good poems or prose, and would like to share it with me, please do! That would help a great deal!
